Video as a pedagogical tool
Students are no longer passive receivers of content, but active designers of their own learning. My inspiration comes from giving students access to cameras and seeing what they could produce. The results impressed me. Students cared more about their writing, they finally had an audience that would listen. They cared about how they sounded, how they looked, the content they created. I want to explore the use of video as a way of allowing students an opportunity to create and share more authentic, original, and meaningful work. I would also like to provide students with the opportunity to experiment with their creativity, outside of the constraints of classroom content. Visual content is becoming the preferred form of communication. In a fast paced world, images can provide the same effect as words, but much faster. I believe it is time to provide students access to the tools they use, as a way of developing deeper understanding of content.
